Childhood and Early Inspirations
I spent my childhood outside. We had a family cottage in the country that we would visit every weekend and we would go on family camping trips throughout the summer. I’m talking a train would drop us off in the middle of nowhere with canoes, a satellite phone, and our backpacks kinda camping… I loved being outside and going on adventures, but as I got older it all seemed to change.
Life gets in the way. We get busy, we get jobs, and all of a sudden taking a break and getting outside can feel out of reach because of all the things you could be, or should be doing instead.
When I was pregnant with our first child, I came across a book that my mom bought for me when I was 9 or 10 called the Natural Beauty Bible. It was filled with natural recipes for things like hair masks, face masks, and creams. Flooded with memories of my mother and me mashing avocados and raw egg into our hair, it inspired me to start looking into more natural products for our growing family.
The more I learned about natural skin care and the power of plants and mother nature, my passion for them was re-awakened. My connection to the earth and nature was restored, and I haven't looked back.
The Modern Disconnect
The more research I did, the more I realized how far we’ve veered away from what was normal 200 or even 100 years ago. We live our whole lives surrounded by all things artificial. We cover ourselves in synthetic fabrics, eat artificially flavored and colored foods, breathe air-conditioned, artificially scented air, and slather ourselves in chemical-rich creams, soaps, and shampoos.
Bridlewood Soaps is about helping people reconnect with nature and our roots. It's about filling your bathroom with the smell of your favorite plants during a shower, nourishing your skin with vitamin C straight from the bud of a rose, and sitting in a tub filled with flowers... making you feel like that natural goddess that you are!
It is one simple way of replacing the artificial with something simple, and pure. We collect our raw materials from reputable sources all over the world and hand-make pieces of natural art in the form of soaps and skin care right here in Orangeville, Ontario. We love to use the beauty of nature whenever we can.
Our philosophy is, if you can do it naturally, why wouldn’t you? And if you can make it look pretty, even better!
